Research on and application of outdoor display screens for
transportation guidance
(1) Major research findings
Came up with the three-level guidance concept: overall
coordinated-control, regional guidance & local guidance control;
Brought forward the principle of controlled areas dividing;
Put forward information screens spacing parameter, the visibility
relating to information screens release, and other parameters;
Brought up the screen specification and design rules for the
information screens of embedded type, combined type and full
dot-matrix type;
Put forward information screens layout strategy & release
strategy.
(2) Practical application cases
Worked out the outdoor display screen system construction plan for
the transportation guidance in Beijing
Preliminarily formed the road guidance system within the 4th Ring
Road of Beijing and provided the basis for future expansion of the
system.

travelers who are going in the direction of Badaling Expressway on
the 2nd, 3rd & 4th Ring Roads of Beijing is taken as an example for
the presentation of the layout strategy for dynamic transportation

the outdoor display screen system of transportation guidance in

Traffic data processing and application system for floating cars
(1) Brief Introduction
With the traffic data processing and application system for floating
cars, such key functions as real time estimation of travel time &
judgment on the congestion conditions, map presentation & inquiry of
real time traffic conditions, real time inquiry of travel time,
statistical analysis & inquiry of historical transportation
information. Breakthroughs have been made in the two key
technologies of map matching algorithm and estimation algorithm for
road sections travel time.
The system completes its processing of the service data collected
from the floating cars to produce the information on the real time,
continuous & reliable road network travel time, the congestion
conditions, etc. It is of great social and economic significance in
that it has realized the timely, comprehensive and accurate
commanding of the targets of trends and laws of dynamic traffic
conditions change.
(2) Primary functions of the system
Real time estimation of travel time & judgment on the congestion
conditions
The system has perfectly realized the core process of real time
estimation of travel time & judgment on the congestion conditions,
mainly including operating data collection from the floating cars,
map data preprocessing, abnormal data processing for the floating
cars, map matching, estimation on the travel time & average speed of
travel, judgment on the congestion conditions, etc.

Map presentation & inquiry of real time traffic conditions
The real-time outcome of judgment on the road congestion conditions
can be presented on the electronic map, with different colors
representing different road congestion conditions.
Moreover,subscribers may make inquiry about the information of
real-time travel time and average speed of travel on various road
sections.

Real-time inquiry on travel time
The system provides three modes of inquiry of travel time:
Inquiry of time used for travel between any two points of key
roads;
Inquiry of travel time on self-defined road sections by
subscribers;
Inquiry of travel time by the shortest route between any two
points;

Statistical analysis & inquiry of historical transportation
information
The system carries out statistical analysis on the historical
transportation conditions and reveals the regularity of the traffic
system in time and space. Subscribers may make inquiry about the
information of historical traffic flow, travel time, average speed
of travel on various road sections.
 
3. Integrated management system for high-grade highways
(1) Brief Introduction
The operations management becomes comprehensive by integrating
advanced information technology, data communication technology,
control technique, sensing technique, operational research and
system integration technique and on the basis of giving full play to
the monomer operation systems of toll collecting, monitoring,
communication, roadway administration, road surface & bridge
management, office automation, etc.
(2) Major functions of the system
Information-sharing
Information can be collected from various subsystems such as MTC/ETC
toll-collecting system, CCTV monitoring system, VD vehicle detector,
maintenance system, etc.
Data excavation
Besides some fundamental functions such as the simple one of
statistical query, this system also provides more advanced function
of prediction,which can be made on the future traffic volume, toll
to be collected, etc monthly, quarterly or yearly.
Decision support
With further analysis on historical data and real-time information
collected, the system can also provide aid decision-making support
on road maintenance, prediction on travel time, etc.
Information release
Up to now,this system can render services for travelers by releasing
various traveling information by different methods such as
Variable-Message Sign(VMS), internet, message, broadcasting, etc.

4. Microwave
traffic flow detector
(1) Brief Introduction
Microwave traffic flow detecting system is designed to detect the
essential information on outward run flow, occupancy, average
velocity and vehicle type, etc;
The microwave traffic flow detector developed by Beijing
Zhongjiaoguotong ITS Technology Co., Ltd came into the market in
2004, breaking up the monopoly of domestic microwave traffic flow
detector market by the products of the two original overseas
companies.
Since the product was launched on the market, market competition
has emerged. As a result, the selling price per unit has been
lowered to about RMB 25,000 Yuan in 2007 year after year from the
long-lasting RMB 50,000 to 60,000 Yuan before 2005.
The share of our products in the domestic market share is
increasingly rising, with 82 to 89 units of the Center accounting
for 27%-28% of the whole expressway market which boasted 300 - 350
units in 2005 and with 95 to 100 units of the Center accounting for
31% - 33% of the whole expressway market which boasted 300 - 320
units in 2006 respectively.
Our products have been successively put into application in
Jiangsu, Guangdong, Anhui, Henan, Fujian, Beijing, Yunnan, Shanxi,
Tianjin, etc.

(3) Representative test service
Detecting and testing service for key equipments(RSU and OBU)of
ETC
Key ETC equipments of a number of companies have passed the testing
with major physical parameters.
In June 2007, Beijing Zhongjiaoguotong ITS Technology Co., Ltd
organized a number of international suppliers of DSRC equipments to
carry out the application test of interoperation. The equipments for
this test had all passed the test with international physical
parameters. And the major purpose of the test was to prove the
interoperability of ETC of a number of manufacturers with respect to
DSRC protocol.
  
Test of microwave/video traffic flow detectors
On 18-21 May 2005, a week of test of video/microwave traffic flow
detectors was organized by Beijing Zhongjiaoguotong ITS Technology
Co., Ltd. This test was divided into two parts: (1) By installing
different types of traffic flow detectors at Baige Service Area on
Badaling Expressway, test data of traffic flow was collected by the
different types of traffic flow detectors from the driveway section
in single direction under same test conditions; (2) By installing
different types of traffic flow detectors in the comprehensive
proving ground of the Ministry of Communications and organizing a
certain amount of traffic flow, test data could be collected by the
different types of traffic flow detectors from the same traffic flow
under same test conditions, including the traffic flow, time
occupancy, average velocity, etc. During the testing process,the
participating manufacturers carried out close cooperation in timely
completing the equipment installation and debugging.
